Many fruits and vegetables are available year round, and unless you're paying close attention, it's easy to pay a lot of money for something that was shipped thousands of miles and tastes like only a shadow of its real self. Tomatoes are a prime example. Buy them in the dead of winter and they are mealy, tasteless and expensive. Buy them in the heat of the summer and they are the best thing you've ever eaten with just a pinch of salt and pepper to adorn them.
To offer a little help in the season department, below is a general list of what's in season when. You may not be able to get everything on the list where you live in the season they are listed, but this is a good representation of common fruits and vegetables and when they are at their peak. Happy shopping!
