It wasn't until my sister moved to Memphis, Tennessee that I discovered this hotbed of barbecue, blues and all things Elvis.  And although I'm not a devoted Elvis fan, after visiting Graceland (3 times now) I have a deep appreciation for his talent, his devotion to music and his influence on the world.  As for his taste in food, this too is legendary.  While he grew up on collard greens, sweet potatoes and cornbread, his adult palate craved fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches, hot dogs with sauerkraut and Jell-O.

Elvis Aaron Presley was born on January 8, 1935; this year he would have been 77.  As a small tribute to the rock and roll giant I think it's fitting that I include recipes for some of his favorite foods. Although I can't bring myself to re-create a fried peanut butter and banana sandwich, I have no problem cooking up some Southern Fried Chicken, making some Creamy Whipped Potatoes and baking a Nilla Wafer Banana Pudding.  And I fully expect a "thank ya, thank ya very much" from my dinner guests.

Elvis, if you haven't left the building, here's to you.
