Hot Chocolate

This hot chocolate is the real thing - rich, decadent and delicious. Try adding a little peppermint Schnapps or other liqueur and serving it with a shortbread biscuit for a for a fun adult dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups half-and-half
  • 4 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 4 ounces milk chocolate, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • whipped cream to serve (optional)

Serves 4

  1. Heat the milk and half-and-half in a saucepan on medium heat until it just barely simmers.
  2. Remove the pan from the heat and add both types of chocolate. Stir continuously until the chocolate is melted.
  3. Add the sugar and vanilla extract and whisk vigorously to incorporate.
  4. Reheat gently and serve immediately. If you like, garnish each cup with a dollop of whipped cream.
